Listen now: Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross cover John Carpenter’s “Halloween” theme

Sacred Bones Records/The Null CorporationTrent Reznor is celebrating Friday the 13th with a tribute to one of the most iconic horror movies of all time. The Nine Inch Nails frontman and his frequent collaborator, Atticus Ross, have shared a cover of the theme from John Carpenter‘s classic 1978 film, Halloween. You can download the track now via digital outlets.

“I clearly remember my friends and I at 13 years old conning our parents into letting us see Halloween when it came out in 1978,” says Reznor. “We left the theater forever changed. We were damaged and scarred, with the s*** genuinely scared out of us and that theme stuck firmly in our heads. John Carpenter, it’s your fault that I turned out the way I did.”

“Moody and dark, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ version of “Halloween” does amazing justice to the original,” adds Carpenter. “I’m impressed.” Carpenter, by the way, composed the theme himself back in the day.

A collection of newly recorded versions Carpenter’s movie themes, titled Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998, will be released on October 20.
