Courtesy MTVThe 2017 MTV Video Music Awards were held Sunday night in Los Angeles, and included performances from Thirty Seconds to Mars and Lorde, plus Twenty One Pilots added another award to their trophy case.
Prior to his band’s performance, Jared Leto offered a tribute to the late Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington. Then, Thirty Seconds to Mars gave their new single “Walk on Water” its live debut.
Lorde danced to her track “Homemade Dynamite,” but didn’t actually sing the song live. She had tweeted earlier that she had the flu, so presumably she was resting her voice.
Twenty One Pilots took home the Best Rock Video for their “Heavydirtysoul” video, beating out Foo Fighters‘ “Run,” Green Day‘s “Bang Bang,” Fall Out Boy‘s “Young and Menace,” and Coldplay‘s “A Head Full of Dreams.”
Rapper Kendrick Lamar won Video of the Year, for “HUMBLE.” The show was hosted by pop star Katy Perry.
