Monica Schipper/FilmMagicMike Diamond is trading in vinyl records for wine bottles for his next gig.
The musician and DJ — better known as Mike D of Beastie Boys — will help curate the wine list for a new restaurant called Hearth & Hound that’s opening in Los Angeles.
“It’s going to be a fun list,” Diamond tells Bloomberg. “We are putting together a wine program that will get customers tasting things they might not taste.”
Diamond adds that the list will be accessible, even if you’re not a Sideways-level wine enthusiast.
“If you want a glass of wine, you shouldn’t have to spend an hour figuring out what that wine is, what you’re going to drink,” he says.
Diamond plans to make some music suggestions for what Hearth & Hound should play, but he won’t be DJing himself.
“I don’t think DJing in a restaurant is a good idea — I’ll go bold on that,” Diamond says. “Playing records is fun. DJing with turntables when people are eating; I don’t know if that would be fun for anybody.”
Hearth & Hound, co-owned by the duo behind the famous New York City restaurant The Spotted Pig, is expected to open in L.A. on September 22.
