RCA RecordsCage the Elephant has shared a live video of the band performing their 2011 song “Rubber Ball” at the iconic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. You can watch the string-laden, choir-accompanied rendition now via RollingStone.com.
The “Rubber Ball” performance was recorded for Cage’s upcoming live album, Unpeeled, which will be released Friday, July 28.
“It was always a dream of ours to perform at this hometown venue, and we felt something spiritual from the moment we stepped on stage,” says frontman Matt Shultz. “The song ‘Rubber Ball’ [bassist] Daniel [Tichenor] and I wrote in our first band house. It’s about excess in all aspects. It’s about trying to gain control and not being able to but having love in your heart.”
Unpeeled is a collection of live recordings from Cage the Elephant’s Live & Unpeeled tour, which the band launched earlier this year. The 21-track album features 18 reworked songs from Cage’s four studio albums, as well as three covers.
