Touring with Linkin Park “changed my life,” says Gerard Way

ABC/Randy HolmesIn 2007, My Chemical Romance toured with Linkin Park‘s on the latter’s Projekt Revolution festival. Not only was the tour a huge moment in MCR’s career, but it was huge personally for frontman Gerard Way, as well — it’s where he met his wife, Mindless Self Indulgence bassist Lyn-Z.

In reflecting on the death of Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington, Way says that the 2007 tour “changed my life.”

“I met my wife [on the tour]. We have an amazing life now and a daughter,” Way tells Nerdist. “My memories of that period and meeting Linds again are tied into Chester and his band.”

Way says that he was “devastated” when he heard about Bennington’s death, who died July 20 by suicide.

“He was actually at my wedding,” says Way. “Not a lot of people were there because we got married super quickly at the end of the tour when half the people had gone home. So there were literally only 30 or 40 people there, and he was one of them.”
