Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows picks his 10 favorite metal albums

The vocalist’s list includes classics like Metallica‘s Master of Puppets and Iron Maiden‘s Number of the Beast, plus more modern albums like Korn‘s self-titled debut and System of a Down‘s Toxicity

“When I made this list, I was trying to think of records that really impacted me stylistically, like, ‘Wow, you can do that with heavy metal,'” Shadows explains. “So I tried to think of those landmark moments in my life when I heard a different sound that sparked something.”

Other artists who’ve shared their list of favorite metal albums for Rolling Stone include Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, Rob Halford, Ozzy Osbourne and Slipknot‘s Corey Taylor.

Shadows and Avenged Sevenfold are currently on tour opening for Metallica.
