Matador RecordsQueens of the Stone Age have premiered a new song called “The Way You Used to Do,” the first single to be released from the band’s forthcoming album, Villains. The track is streaming now on YouTube.
“The Way You Used to Do” shows off QotSA’s funky side, which could be credited to Mark Ronson of “Uptown Funk” fame, who produced Villains.
“The most important aspect of making this record was redefining our sound, asking and answering the question ‘what do we sound like now?'” says frontman Josh Homme in a statement. “If you can’t make a great first record, you should just stop — but if you can make a great record but you keep making records and your sound doesn’t evolve, you become a parody of that original sound.”
Along with the new single, Queens of the Stone Age have shared the track list, release date and album cover for Villains. The record spans nine tracks and will arrive on August 25. The artwork features a demon perched on Homme’s back while covering the frontman’s eyes with its hands.
That’s not all: Queens have also announced a North American headlining tour in support of Villains. The fall trek kicks off September 6 in Port Chester, New York and will hit the rest of the U.S., and Toronto, before concluding October 24 at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Royal Blood will open on the tour. Visit QotSA.com for ticket info.
