Pete Wentz teases new, “The NeverEnding Story”-inspired Fall Out Boy single

ABC/Fred LeeFall Out Boy is gearing up to release the second track from their forthcoming new album, Mania, and, according to bassist Pete Wentz, the track takes some inspiration from the ’80s children’s fantasy movie The NeverEnding Story.

In an Instagram post, Wentz writes that the song reminds him of the moment the film’s hero Atreyu volunteers to stop the malevolent force plaguing his home world, but is originally dismissed by the powers that be because of his young age.

“It always stuck out to me as a kid,” Wentz writes. “First they’re like ‘wait you’re just a kid lol we need a warrior’ then they’re like ‘ok you’ll do i guess you’ll do’ and then ‘no one can help you and if you don’t do this our entire world dies, so no pressure.'”

“No one believes but at the same time we all need to believe in you,” Wentz concludes.

The new song is due out towards the end of June. Mania, which features the previously released track “Young and Menace,” will arrive September 15.
