ABC/Randy HolmesPrior to the May 22 terror attack outside England’s Manchester Arena, Kings of Leon had been scheduled to play the same venue on Friday, June 9. It seemed unlikely that the concert would go on as planned so soon after the tragedy, and now the show has officially been cancelled.
“Following last month’s tragic incident and the subsequent temporary closure of the main area outside the venue, Manchester Arena has no other option than to cancel this Friday’s Kings of Leon show,” reads a statement posted to the venue’s website Tuesday.
Kings of Leon is still scheduled to play in nearby Sheffield on Saturday, June 10.
The attack on Manchester Arena, which occurred at the end of an Ariana Grande concert, left 22 people dead and injured more than 100 others. This past Sunday, Grande and her team staged the One Love Manchester benefit concert in support of the victims and their families, which featured performances from Coldplay, Liam Gallagher and Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons.
