Credit: Ira ChernovaThis past spring, Cage the Elephant embarked on their Live & Unpeeled outing, the band’s first-ever acoustic tour. Now, they’ve collected a batch of recordings from those unplugged shows for a live album titled Unpeeled.
Unpeeled, which is due out this summer, features 18 acoustic versions of Cage songs from their four studio albums, plus three covers. Some of the performances include a string quartet and choir accompaniment.
“We connected with the songs in a way we hadn’t before,” says guitarist Brad Shultz of the inspiration behind Unpeeled. “It was really all about the balance of the intimacy and the delicacy of how we approach playing these songs live acoustically and with strings, as we hadn’t done before.”
“We were very transparent,” Shultz adds. “And we found the more honest you can be with yourself, the more honest you can be with everyone else.”
On Monday night’s episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, Cage the Elephant performed a string-backed version of their Tell Me I’m Pretty song “Too Late to Say Goodbye.” Throughout this week, Cage drummer Jared Champion will be sitting in with the show’s house band.
Cage the Elephant will perform at Bonnaroo this weekend.
