Scott Ian says Anthrax would love to work with Lady Gaga: “Let us be your backing band!”

Scott Dudelson/Getty ImagesIt turns out Metallica isn’t the only metal band enamored with Lady GagaAnthrax are big fans, too.

In an interview in Paris with France’s Duke TV, Anthrax rhythm guitarist Scott Ian reveals he’s a long-time admirer of Gaga. “I’ve said since the first time I ever heard her voice, I thought…I would really love to hear her sing on a rock record, metal record, whatever,” he says.

He says Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante became friends with Gaga and confirms that “she’s a metalhead.”

Ian continues, “Yes, we would love to work with Lady Gaga. I think we put that out there a while ago, and then when we found out she was doing the Grammys with Metallica, it was like, ‘Wow, makes sense.’”

Ian adds, “We would certainly love to write a song together, or a whole album.  Let us be your backing band, Lady Gaga! We could make beautiful music together.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Ian talks about how Anthrax, Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth are “still carrying the torch” of ’80s metal.

He explains that unlike other bands, Anthrax never felt the need for any “mystique” — like wearing masks or scowling in photos — because they’re just “normal people” from New York who “let our personalities and emotions show through in everything we do in this band.”

In addition, Ian reveals his fantasy: playing rhythm guitar in AC/DC, just once.
