Metallica replaces cover band’s stolen equipment

ABC/Randy HolmesWashington-based Metallica cover band Blistered Earth recently had their gear stolen after a show in Portland. But good news: the real James Hetfield and company came to the rescue.

“Sometimes when bad things happen it really brings out the best in people,” Blistered Earth writes on their Facebook. “Thanx to the the attention you guys helped bring to the matter of our stolen gear…James & the rest of the guys in Metallica (thanx guys) have seen fit to replace our equipment. Thank you guys!”

The thieves stole pretty much every instrument Blistered Earth played, including guitars, basses and drums, plus a number of amps and pedals.

“It’s pretty cool that [Metallica] decided to [replace the equipment],” drummer Shawn Murphy tells OregonLive. “It’s a pretty nice gesture.”

Metallica will kick off a North American stadium tour in support of their new album Hardwired…to Self-Destruct on May 10 in Baltimore.
