Pantera’s Rex Brown to release debut solo album, “Smoke on This…”

eOne MusicPantera bassist Rex Brown has announced the details of his debut solo album. The 11-track record is called Smoke on This…, and will be released July 28.

“We’re not going to necessarily cater to metal fans, but the guys who grew up with Pantera, a lot of them love all the same stuff that I grew up on, too,” Brown says in a statement. “This is just something else I’m doing for fun, man. And musical freedom.”

He adds, “Fun has to come into it or I’m not going to do it. I’ve had a tremendous career and now I feel like I’m thirty years old again. This has given me that freedom I needed.”

In addition to Pantera, Brown also played with band mate Phil Anselmo in his band Down.
